1. SPOTLIGHTING NEW ARTISTS

We are please to promote the following new outstanding member artists on display at Artwell:

Konrad Sheehan
Mixed Media - Glendale , CA

"This, an encaustic piece which is #1 in a series of 4, is entitled 9 11 01. Encaustic is a 3000 year technique utilizing melted wax, pigment and demure resin. Jasper Johns successfully reintroduced this technique to the world in the 50's. …This piece represents the American Flag. (an ode to Jasper Johns)"

Danny Davini

Painting - Buena Park , CA

"I enjoy trying new styles and techniques as I develop my own original works. Each piece is a chance to unlock ones artistic abilities and to express oneself in a unique way. I desire my art to not only be good, (I have seen many paintings that were great but boring), but also interesting, catching the viewers eye, compelling them to stop and look."

Mykola Kirichenko
Painting - Lake Orion , MI

"Instead of using spheres, and pyramids, and cubes, I use abstracted circles, triangles, and squares. Color is the primary representative in describing the 3D subject along with the freedom and abstraction of the form."

2. SOMETIMES THE BEST FEMINISM IS NO FEMINISM

Category: Contemporary
Written by Carissa DiGiovanni

3. ARTISTIC VENDING MACHINES

Category: Resource
Written by Kellie Hanna

I added a link to Art-o-Mat in the message boards last week. I thought I'd write about it because I think it's a fun, unique, and exciting concept. It's an innovative way to spread visual art to the masses; and an interesting way to recycle tired old cigarette machines, retired since the passing of harsher laws against cigarette vending…

4. ART POLL RESULTS
Last month we asked our visitors…

"If you could go back in time, which artist would you most like to meet?"

The results revealed that van Gogh is the most popular choice among Artwell visitors. Picasso and daVinci tied at second place, with Goya and Caravaggio at third. No one who took the poll was interested in meeting Warhol. Sorry Andy.

You can talk about your favorite artists in the message boards.
